Watch out Tony, Harry wants your stars
Tottenham Manager Harry Redknapp has already hinted at a possible raid of Portsmouth for former players.
Possible players could include midfielder Lassana Diarra, striker Peter Crouch and England forward Jermain Defoe, who left Tottenham for Portsmouth nine months ago. Fans chanted Defoe’s name by Spurs fans in Redknapp’s first game in charge.
“If Portsmouth want to sell some of their players, there’s an open market,” Redknapp said in an interview with BBC Radio 5. “They’ve got some fantastic players there. Absolutely top, top players, they really have.”
Defoe demanded Tottenham sell him because he was an irregular pick behind Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane, but both have since left the club and Defoe has found the back of the net 14 times in 21 Premier League matches for Portsmouth.
Defoe is one of six former Tottenham players at Portsmouth, including Crouch, Sol Campbell and Sean Davis. Campell and David James are also rumored to be targets.
Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie repeated that no player will be sold without the full consent of the next permanent manager at Fratton Park.
Harry knows no player is sold without first discussing it with the manager,” Storrie stated in the Daily Mail.
Storrie has stated that he several unnamed clubs submitted summer transfer deadline day offers for Defoe and Crouch.
“We had offers for Defoe and Crouch on the last transfer deadline day, but they were rejected and they would be rejected again,” he went to say, ”I can categorically say, ‘no we won’t sell those two players in January’. We might want to sell if someone offers stupid money”
