Portsmouth promote Adams following Redknapp’s departure
Portsmith has promoted Tony Adams to Manager following the departure of Harry Redknapp. The former Arsenal captain looks eager to start his position with the club.
Adams had been an assistant to Harry Redknapp at Portsmouth for 2 and a half years prior to taking the promotion.
“It’s a great opportunity and one I’d be mad to turn down,” Adams said. “I’ve been here 2 1/2 years so it was kind of business as usual this morning. I’d hate to sit at home and see them give this job to someone else.”
Apparently Redknapp had possible intended for Adams to be his successor,
“When I bought Tony Adams in, Tony wanted to be manager one day,” Redknapp stated Tuesday. “I thought, ‘Come with me for a year or two and you can step into my job.’ That’s how I felt about it then.”
As far as addressing his old club, Adams had spoke to Arsenal manager prior to the announcement.
“I spoke to Arsene last night to ask advice and he said, ‘Welcome to hell,”‘ Adams said. “I said, ‘Are you scared? Because I’m coming for you.”‘
