Van der Vaart not a “Real” man

2008 July 25

Hamburg have rejected Real Madrid’s bid for midfield playmaker Rafael van der Vaart. New manager Martin Jol has stated he is determined to keep the Dutch international.

“The offer was absolutely out of the question,” Hamburg sports director Dietmar Beiersdorfer told German agency SID.

It is rumored that the offer was £5.5million. While van der Vaart is under contract with the German club until 2010, he can opt out of his contract for £1.2million in the year before deal expires.

Rafael has stated he is happy to stay at Hamburg, however Dutch teammate Wesley Sneijder has claimed van der Vaart is desperate for a move to the Spanish giants.
